Sortides

Year 2011_2012

Més enllà de les guerres: Trobades amb compromis.

One of the features of the CIL program is taking the learning and teaching outside the classroom.  Co-operation among teachers results in a less isolated and richer experience. Also, the Internet gives us the chance to go beyond the walls of our school and catch a glimpse of what  is going on in the real world. It lets us find out about different realities.  Last year we organised 14 outings and, judging from your feedback and that of your families,  you all felt you learnt a lot and would like to continue this year carrying out  activities outside school. This year, one of the axis of our project will be working with news at international level.  As we move from our city, which was the object of study last year,  to other cities all over the world, we shall also trascend local news  and move beyond our country borders.  We shall be commenting headlines, digital and paper editions of newspapers and blogs. Some  of the outings you’ll be going this year will take place at La Caixa.  They are part of a cycle where journalists, NGO workers and other professionals  committed to helping the most vulnerable will share with you their first hand experience in countries very different from ours. Wars, conflicts and natural disasters took them there. You will have the opportunity to listen to them and ask them questions.

We also continued our investigation on emblematic buildings and its uses in different epochs: from Es Baluard in our previous outing  to La Misericordia. These exhibitions  gave us greater insight in the technological advances of the XX century,  from 3D  to X rays.

1. Biblioteca municipal de Palma, 23rd September

Dear students, this is the first picture we have from our first school outing. Two students are missing, but we shall do many more outings throughout the year, so we’ll have time to take more pics. I hope we’ll have a good time together. We set off reading a book, so today we visited an old library. On our way back we sat under an old tree to have a snack.

Today we visited the Town Hall Library and I am very proud of you. You asked lots of interesting questions and behaved very well. The librarians were impressed and said that you were a wonderful group. You learnt so many things that I’m sure now you can answer the following questions:

  1. How many people use the library a year?
  2. How many people use the library a day?
  3. Can you borrow all the books that are displayed in the bookshelves?
  4. How many computers were there ?
  5. Can you go in without ID?
  6. Were there any English, German or French newspapers?
  7. What is the oldest book in the library?
  8. Where are the oldest books kept?
  9. Why are some books kept in boxes?
  10. what is WIFI? can you use your laptop at the library.
a giant reading stands at the entrance of the library

Walking along the narrow wooden corridor in the first floor

we saw some old books: a guide for tourists coming to Majorca in 1900 written in French
Pau needed some help today, but lots of people volunteered to push the wheel chair
The eldest book kept at the library
In the old times, when you looked for books you had to look here
Nowadays, libraries need to introduce new technologies.
